Michael R. “Mike” Hornung, 65, of Keokuk, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at his home in Keokuk.
Mike was born on June 6, 1959, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Betty June (Thorton) Hornung. He graduated from Central Lee High School in 1977, and went on to work at Foote Mineral, County Market and Ace Hardware. Mike was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter-Day Saints in Keokuk and was extremely passionate about politics. He was a homebody, but his close friends and family meant the world to him, especially his great-nieces.
Mike is survived by his brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Bender, his nephew Kevin (Brooke) Bender and two great-nieces: Bailey and Hallie Bender.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lucretia “Lutie” Bender.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Printy Funeral Home, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk, Iowa, with burial to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 am directly before the service.
