Vigen Memorial Home obituary – Maxine Bernadine Bourgeois, 80, Kahoka

Maxine Bernadine Bourgeois, 80, of Kahoka died Monday, April 10, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born September 18, 1942 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of John and Evelyn Otte Uhlmeyer. 

Maxine graduated from Clark County High School with the class of 1960. 

On June 11, 1960 she was united in marriage to Eldon Bourgeois in St. Patrick, MO.  He survives.

She is also survived by her son, Brent Bourgeois (Tracy) of Wyaconda, daughter, Johnna Kermes (Tony) of Minnesota, five grandchildren, Ryan Bourgeois (Jennifer), LaTisha Bourgeois, Alix Kermes, Sage Kermes, and Levi Kermes and two great grandchildren, Aiden and Lyla Bourgeois.  She is also survived by three sisters, Carolyn Johnson (Kent) of Hamilton, Linda Althoff (John) of Quincy, and Brenda Kleinert (Mark) of Keokuk, and one brother, Larry Uhlmeyer (Patty) of Taylor along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Sheila Bourgeois.

Maxine was employed at the Clark County School district and worked in the Blackhawk Elementary cafeteria for fourteen years before her retirement.  She was also Eldon’s right-hand man at the family farm.

Maxine had an unwavering and deep faith in God was a devoted member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and served on the altar society. 

She enjoyed taking pictures, flowers, gardening, watching birds and cooking.  Above all things, Maxine enjoyed spending time with family.  Maxine was a wonderful, devoted wife, mother and grandmother who leaves her family a lifetime of wonderful memories.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Kahoka with Father Rob Fields officiating.  Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.

A wake service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 14 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka.  Visitation will follow the wake service with the family meeting with friends until 7:00 p.m.
