Thomas, Adkins lead Hawks at Central Lee Invite

DONNELLSON – Leo Thomas put up the best time for the Central Lee boys' cross country team at the Central Lee invitational Tuesday afternoon in Donnellson.
Thomas put up a 20:20.49, good enough for 13th overall in the six-team field, and was followed by Austin Fogarty at 20:47.22 (16th).
Then the Hawks got some solid pack running with Ayden Kent, Caden Crozier, Kaiden Humes, and Caedon Newton taking 18th-21st and all finishing within 20 seconds of each other.
Kent ran at 21:21.12, while Crozier came in at 21:30.31, Humes at 21:30.84, and Newton at 21:47.89. Other runners for Central Lee included Beau Boyd with a 24:57.21 (43rd) and Keegan Westfall 29:28.13 (53rd).
The Hawks captured 3rd place overall with an 86 following Van Buren with a 24 and Louisa-Muscatine at 51.
In the girls' run, Eva Adkins pulled a sixth place overall with a 23:44 for the Lady Hawks.  Aubrie Bunnell was second best for Central Lee with a 26:03, followed closely by Afton Maynes at 26:41 (18th) and Macy Anderson 26:50 (19th). Saphire Cummings rounded out the top five for the Hawks with a 37:08. The girls also captured 3rd place with a 97. Keokuk won that event with 37 points followed by L-M with 45.
Central Lee’s middle school boys' and girls' teams both captured first with 31 and 49 points, respectively.
Both squads run in the Fort Madison Invitational Thursday afternoon on the north side of Rodeo Park starting at 4 p.m.
