FMMS boys suffer first loss
FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison 8th grade boys A team suffered their first loss of the year to Ottumwa 39-35 on Monday night.
Aiden Mitchell poured in 19 to lead the Little Hounds. Dayton Lamar had seven, Caden Barnes scored five, while Julian Dear and Jackson Guzman each added two points.
The Hounds are 6-1 on the year.
The B Team suffered a 42-8 loss. Joseph Fuller, Noah Swigart, Chandler Fullenkamp and Kaleb Heidbreder each had two points in the loss.
New London downs Central Lee
Brayden Wyrick scored 17 as the 3-7 Central Lee Hawks fell to visiting News London 28 to 20 in 8th grade boys basketball.
Kegan Damico had three points for Central Lee who travels to Burlington for a Thursday game with Notre Dame. They then play Tuesday, March 2 at home vs. Danville.
In the 7th grade game, Owen Swan scored a last second layup to give the Hawks a 38-37 win. Swan finished with 14 points and four assists. Will Hayes had 13 points and six boards. Brody Moeller had four poits, Brant Kraciun had three, while Carter Ellingboe and Caleb Larson each added two points.
The 7th graders are 8-2 on the season and travel to Notre Dame Tuesday.
HTC Boys sweep Danville
The Holy Trinity 8th graders finished the year 9-2 after an 11-1 campaign last year as 7th graders.
The Crusaders held off the Bears 23-22 after holding a 12-9 halftime lead. Adam Sobczak has 12 points to lead HTC. Luke Hellige had five and Henry Graham scored four in the win. Mason Kruse added a bucket
In the 7th grade game, Layne Rung had 18 including a couple three pointers to lead the Crusaders to a 40-21 win. Jameson Denning, Nathan Box and Corbin Van Niewaal all had four.
