Mary Jane “Janey” Wolgemuth, 76, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Born on January 28, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Mary L. (Wilkens) Amann. On May 21, 1966, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, Illinois, she married Dennis Wolgemuth.

She is survived by her husband: Dennis; two children: Tony (Connie) Wolgemuth of Bloomington, Illinois and Amy (John) Hellige of Fort Madison; three grandchildren: Matt (fiancé Annabelle), Mary and Luke Hellige; six siblings: Phil (Janet) Amann of Hamilton, Jim (Debra) Amann of Hamilton, Susan (Greg) Bolton of Hamilton, Theresa (John) Mason of Hamilton, Mark (Becky) Amann of Pittsfield, Illinois and Sarah (Jeff) Oberman of Fenton, Missouri. Also surviving are fourteen nieces, nephews, twenty-one great nieces, nephews, and eight great great nieces, nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Josh Heitman.

Janey was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and received a bachelors degree in Business Management from Hannibal-LaGrange College. Janey had a passion for serving others and that was evident in her professional career which began at Keokuk Area Hospital in March of 1967. In 1984, Janey opened Keokuk Area Medical Equipment and after 52 years she retired from Keokuk Area Hospital in April of 2019. Janey was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Women's Club, lector and eucharistic minister and served on the parish council. She enjoyed long walks, was an avid reader and a great hostess. Janey especially loved watching her grandchildren in their sporting events and caring for her friends and family.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, Friday, April 21, 2023, at Schmitz Banks & Beals Funeral Home, in Nauvoo, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant.

Burial will be in the SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Nauvoo.

A memorial has been established in her memory for Holy Trinity Boys Basketball or SS. Peter & Paul School.
