Verona Alberta Williams, 86, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in Ankeny, Iowa.
Verona was born on March 11, 1937, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of William P. and Isabel (Webster) Barker. On August 12, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert Lee Williams in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2021.
Verona was a faithful member of God’s Way Christian Center in Keokuk for many years, and after moving to Ankeny, attended the Philadelphia 7th Day Adventist in Des Moines. Her faith was the most important aspect of her life, and she lived it out by teaching Sunday School and serving as an evangelist in Keokuk, even appearing on TV. In her younger years, she was employed at Sheller-Globe, Walmart, and in house cleaning. However, her greatest work was raising her children and loving her family.
Verona is survived by eight children: Caren Taylor of Davenport, Gordon (Carrye) Williams of Keokuk, Lynn (Lawrence) Manson of Des Moines, Wanda Williams of Ankeny, Robert (Cynthia) Williams Jr. of Keokuk, Julie (Michael) Kennerly of Ankeny, Kathy (Alan) Sampson of Lakeport, Ca, Timothy (Rose) Williams of Quincy, Ill, in addition to her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Verona is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 13, 2023, at God’s Way Christian Center in Keokuk, with Pastor Sylvia Tillman officiating. Burial will follow at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk.
