Mary Sue Pote, 82, of Keokuk, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

Mary Sue was born on April 24, 1941, in Keokuk, Iowa. Her parents were Merlin Pote “Tom” and Norene “Nody”. 

Upon graduation from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1963, she began her dedicated teaching career in Martensdale, Iowa.  She then taught within the Catholic School system, starting at Cardinal Stritch High School in Keokuk, Iowa, and eventually teaching in Ft. Madison, Iowa. 

Throughout her life, Mary Sue was devoted to her family and is fondly remembered by her former students. She was also a pet lover and was called upon more than once to take in a homeless puppy. Mary Sue was devoted to her faith, service to her community and dedication to her family. She attended all family events, and always made herself available to her family. Mary Sue will always be remembered by her family for the loving interest she took in their lives.

Mary Sue's greatest dedication was to her faith. She was a tireless volunteer at All Saint's Church starting when she moved back to Keokuk, after living in Martensdale. Those her knew her well, will remember her as a person of great faith and devotion to God. 

Mary Sue had the good fortune to be born into a large loving family whom she constantly showered with love. Mary Sue is survived by nephew Phillip (Louise) Pote of Minneapolis, Minnesota, nieces Andrea (Alan) Anselman of Plano, Texas and Elaine (Chris) Mankle of Bastrop, Texas, three generations of cherished nieces and nephews, and many cousins. In addition to family, Mary Sue had many wonderful friends whom were so dear to her heart. 

Mary Sue is preceded in death by her parents, the apple of her eye, her brother Thomas “Tom” G. (Kathryn) Pote, and her beloved nephew Timothy J. Pote.

Funeral Mass will be held at 12 pm (Noon) on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery (Middle Catholic). Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday, October 7, at DeJong-Greaves Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk.
