Jerald Wayne “Jerry” Newberry, 85, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Jerry was born February 20, 1938 in Dallas City, the son of John and Mildred (Patterson) Newberry. On June 10, 1961 he married Darla Jo Newberry in Dallas City. She preceded him in death May 4, 2020.

Mr. Newberry was a 1956 graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school he served as an Airplane Mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning home from the service he worked for Knutstrom Chevrolet in Stronghurst, Illinois as a mechanic and was later promoted to service manager. Thereafter he worked at Champion in Burlington, Iowa.

When his children were younger, he enjoyed taking his family boating and going to and participating in drag races. Being a mechanic his love for motor sports came naturally. He especially loved NASCAR.

Survivors include two children: Andy (Joyce) Newberry of Dallas City and Deanne Hutson of Indianapolis, Indiana; six grandchildren: Katherine Hutson, Jacob Hutson, Samuel Newberry, Wyatt Newberry, Michaela Toboso and Angie Dwyer and one great-grandson: Logan Dwyer.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son: Michael Newberry.

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home
