Susan E. Butler 69, of Ft. Madison passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
She was born on March 11, 1954 in Independence, Iowa to William and June Temeyer Bonefas. Sue was a 1972 graduate of East Buchanan High School. On February 27, 1976 she married Arthur G. Butler in Independence, where together they raised their three sons, Mark, Jeremy and Adam. In 1987 Sue graduated from the Respiratory Therapy program from Hawkeye Community College. She worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo until she and Art moved to Ft. Madison in 2004. Sue continued her career at Fort Madison Community Hospital until her retirement in 2020. She was a kind and compassionate caregiver and was loved and respected by her patients and coworkers. Sue had a passion for quilting. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Art Butler of Ft. Madison; three sons, Mark (Keri) Butler of Tiffin, IA, Jeremy Butler of Colesburg, IA and Adam (Andrea) Butler of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren, Trey, Judah, Owen, Brooklyn, Jocelyn and June; five brothers, Daniel (Norma) Bonefas and Steve (Vickie) Bonefas of Independence, Kenneth (Terry) Bonefas of Griswald, CT, Edward (Nancy) Bonefas of Shenandoah and Anthony Bonefas of Waterloo; three sisters, Mary (Ron) Besler of Boone, Wanda Childress of Iowa City and Virginia (Steve) Doan of Independence; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and two sisters in law, Richard and Linda, James, William and Linda and Paul and a brother in law, Arvel Childress.
Services for Sue will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 10:30 AM at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.
