Joseph “Joe” Adam Heinrich, 82 of Ft. Madison passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 11:03 PM at his home.

   He was born on September 18, 1940 in New York City, NY to Adam and Katharina Feil Heinrich.  On August 29, 1964 he married Karen Ann Sovern of Ft. Madison.   Joe was a graduate of Paul Smiths College in Paul Smith, New York.  Joe was a retired production operator at the American Ordinance Plant in Middletown where he served as a Chief Union Steward for Local 1010 of the International Association of Machinists.  He continued to serve and assist the Union after his retirement.  He also had been employed at FirstMiss from the time the Green Bay Bottoms plant was being built until it closed.   Joe was a member of Holy Family Parish where he served as a member of the Building and Grounds committee and the Knights of Columbus.  He volunteered at the Fort Madison food pantry and enjoyed gardening, ice fishing, crafting, working with gourds, reading and was a history and geography buff and conducted grandparent camp for his grandkids.

   Survivors include his wife, Karen Heinrich of Ft. Madison; one son, Kurt (wife Mary) Heinrich of Urbandale; one daughter, Lorraine (husband Tim) Stout of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Clare, Ethan and Savannah; one sister, Eva Holmes of Stamford, VT and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

  Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A memorial  mass and interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery will take place at a later date.
