James R. Howard, 67, of Alexandria, MO and formerly of Ft. Madison passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at his home.

     He was born on April 20, 1956 in Anamosa, IA to James and Ruby York Howard.  On May 22, 2004 Jim married Donna Peel Vaughn in Revere, MO.  He was a sanitation specialist for Service Master.  In his early years he was a resident assistant at a group home for the mentally handicapped and he grew to love the residents and cared for them as his family.  Jim loved music, NASCAR and was an avid college football and NFL fan, especially the San Fransico 49ers. 

     Survivors include his wife, Donna Howard of Alexandria, MO; five children, Jaime (Steve) Brecount of Argyle, Jessica Thomas of Revere, MO, Angela Fuller of Burlington, Ashley Howard of Moline and Jason (Katie)Howard of Keokuk; three stepsons, Vincent Vaughn of Batesville, AK, TJ (Brittany) Vaughn of Long Grove, IA and Brice Vaughn of Mt. Pleasant; seventeen grandchildren; one great grandchild and one on the way; two brothers, Rick Howard of St. Patrick, MO and Steve (Pam) Howard of Ft. Madison; one sister, Lisa (Paul) Lingenfelter of Montrose; one sister in law, Glenda Howard Newbanks of Solon and numerous nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marty Howard and a brother-in-law, Steve Preader. 

     Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  The family will meet with friends from 9 AM -11 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at King-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Appanoose Cemetery, Niota, IL.  A celebration of life will be held at the Eagles Club from 12 PM until 3 PM following the visitation.
