William Clair Denning, 90, of Wapello, IA, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

He was born on August 14, 1932 in Denmark, IA to Steve and Marion Broadfield Denning.  On June 12, 1955 he married Sue Geneva Hotop in Ft. Madison.  Sue passed away on October 7, 2021.  William served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and the University of Iowa where he received his Masters Degree. He was a teacher and Principal for over thirty years in the Wapello Community School District before he retired.  William enjoyed fishing in his early years and was an avid history buff.  He and Sue enjoyed traveling and going to casinos where they enjoyed playing video poker.

William is survived by three daughters, Kelly, Kris and Kim, a niece and a great nephew.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Karleen Pumphrey and his wife, Sue.

A private family graveside service with military rites will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
