Richard L. Groene, 91, of Kansas City, MO and formerly of Ft. Madison, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at his home.

He was born on May 22, 1932 in Wever to Bernard and Irene Palin Groene.  Richard worked for the telephone industry.  On September 25, 1954 he married Rosemary Faulkner and she passed away on June 19, 2023.  Richard served as a SGT in the US Air Force.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and a former member of Ss. Mary & Joseph Church.  Richard loved to spend time boating with his family and traveling with Rosemary.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his four children, Jan (Mark) Homan of Milwaukee, WI, Jeffrey Groene of Coventry, RI, Joseph Groene of Iowa City and Julia (John) Bishop of Parkville, MO; four grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister.

Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  A memorial mass will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church where the family will meet with friends from 10 AM until 11 AM prior to the mass.  Father Gary Beckman will officiate.  Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
