Mary M. Mendez, 80, of Ft. Madison passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Klein Center.
She was born on February 22, 1943 in Ft. Madison to Juan and Margarita Sanchez Vasquez, Sr. On September 29, 1962 she married Edward “Eddie” Mendez in Ft. Madison and he passed away on July 26, 2021. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the LULAC. Mary enjoyed cooking throughout the years and was known for her tacos. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with them.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie (Laura) Mendez of Ft. Madison and Tony (Janie) Mendez of Ft. Madison; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Trisha) Menke, Lindsey (Ben) Lofthus, Michael (Abby) Mendez, Anthony (Brittany) Mendez, Lexie Mendez and Lexi Whaley; nine great grandchildren, Clara & Grace Menke, Emmalyn Snaadt, Liam & Adleigh Lofthus, Wyatt & Whitley Mendez, Cooper & Aydan Mendez; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; seven brothers, Marion “Mani”, Leonard, Lupe, John, Jose “Chi”, Victor and Carlos “Charlie”.
Per her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 9:30AM-11 AM at Sacred Heart Church. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM at the church and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
