Eleanor Ann Carter, 87, of Keokuk, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

Eleanor was born on March 19, 1936, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of John and Geneva (George) Engler. She graduated from Keokuk Senior High in 1954, and on July 21, 1957, she was united in marriage to Roger Carter at the First Baptist Church in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2013.

Eleanor was employed as a painter and wallpaper hanger, later working as a teacher’s aide and library clerk. She was a member of Bel Air Baptist Church in Keokuk, and played the piano for sixty-seven years, serving Bel Air Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church and Bethany Baptist Church. She had multiple other talents, including cake decorating for twenty-five years and sewing, making suits for her husband and son.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter LeAnn (Randy) Kelly of Stephenson, Virginia; and four grandchildren: Megan and Grant Kelly, both of Stephenson, Virginia, Derek Carter of Independence, Missouri, and Kristen Carter of Blue Springs, Missouri.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger, her son David and her brother John Engler.

A private graveside service will be held at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa.
