DOUGLAS
Larry Lee Douglas, 77, of rural Dallas City, Illinois, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
Larry was born September 11, 1945 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Lloyd A. and Mary M. (Rice) Douglas. On September 25, 1966 he married Lois May at the Appanoose Faith Presbyterian Church, near Niota, Illinois.
Mr. Douglas was a 1963 graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school he served in the United States Army Reserves and began farming on the family farm. He was the fourth generation of his family to farm in the Durham, Illinois, area.
Larry enjoyed fishing and attending and participating in tractor pulls. He was a Charter Member of the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and a longtime member of the Illinois and National Tractor Pulling Associations. He was also a member of the Durham Cemetery Board and the Durham United Methodist Church. He was a regular attendee of the Durham Coffee Club. He loved following his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
Survivors include his wife: Lois; one son: Richard (Melanie) Douglas of rural Dallas City; one daughter: Beth (Rodney) Pence of rural Dallas City; four grandchildren: Abbey (Drew) Miller, Jacob Douglas, Leah (Heath) Knowles and Lara Pence; two great-grandsons: Myles Knowles and Baker Miller and one sister: Peggy (Ray) Derrick of Congress, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Burial will follow in the Durham Cemetery.
