Dennis E. Sly, 77, of rural Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at his home.
 
Dennis was born November 11, 1945 in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of James and Fern (Eckhardt) Sly. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Fern and Leo Jolly Wallace. On February 21, 1964 he married Kay Lynn Carothers in Dallas City, Illinois. She preceded him in death January 26, 2005.
 
Dennis attended grade school in Stronghurst, Illinois, and graduated from Dallas City High School. He worked as an Ironworker with the Local #577 all of his life. He also worked for a short time at Royster-Clark Chemical in Niota, Illinois. 
 
He enjoyed mushroom hunting, going on gambling trips with the guys for many years and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. 
 
Survivors include one daughter: Tena (Kenny) Krow of Lomax; three granddaughters: Kayla (Jesse) Ferguson, Kenna (Burdette) Wetzel and Kadee Krow; two great-grandchildren: Bellamy and Harrison Wetzel; one brother: Mike (Cindy) Wallace and three half-siblings: Greg (Linda) Sly, Linda Sly and Rosie (Scott) Sly-Ginther. 
 
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son: Todd Sly; his parents, step-father and one brother: Larry “Barney” Sly. 
 
As per Dennis’ wishes, no services are planned. Cremation has been entrusted to Banks & Beals Funeral Home.
