Susan “Susie” Patricia Payne, 66, of Keokuk, IA died Sunday, January 8, 2023 at her home.

She was born August 30, 1956 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Ellsworth and Marjorie Harrison Merideth.  Susie graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1974.

On July 23, 1983 Susie was united in marriage to Larry Payne.  He survives.

Other survivors include one step-son, Sam (Kris) Payne of Keokuk, two grandsons, Gabe (Lauren) Payne of Moore, OK and Nicholas Payne of Keokuk, one granddaughter, Carrie Payne of Hamilton, IL and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Bob (Mary) Payne of Keokuk and Gary (Trish) Payne of Keokuk, three sisters-in-law, Peggy Skinner of Keokuk, Vicki (Denis) Pezley of Palmyra, MO and Suzan Payne of Keokuk and  many cousins, nieces and nephews including a special niece,  Joey Merideth of Orlando, FL. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Jeff Coovert, one step-son, Larry M. Payne, one brother, Jim Merideth, one nephew, Ronald J. Payne, one niece, Kayle Payne, one sister-in-law, Patsy Bell and one brother-in-law, Ronald Payne. 

Susie had been employed at Keokuk Area Hospital as a data processing clerk for eighteen years.  She then worked at Dial/Pinnacle Foods for 25 years as a deployment analyst and warehouse coordinator.  From 1994 – 2010 she and her husband were owners of the Halftime Deli and Sports Bar in Keokuk.

She was a member of the PEO Chapter U.

Susie was an avid reader and loved animals.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Bob Payne officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4 – 5 p.m. with the family meeting with friends at that time.

Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Humane Society.
