Vigen Memorial Home obituary - Richard L. Long, 86 Keokuk

Richard Leon Long, 86, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Aspire Nursing Home in Donnellson, IA.

     He was born on June 17, 1936 in Queen City, Missouri, the son of Cecil Willard and Ruby Sizemore Long.  He graduated from Queen City High School with the Class of 1954.

     On March 5, 1960, Richard was united in marriage to Judith Louise Howell in Keokuk.  She preceded him in death on October 19, 2022.

     Richard had been employed at R. L. Patton Construction for Twenty-five years, retiring in 1991.

     He was a member of the Iowa Antique Bottleers Club was past President of the Keokuk Coin Club.

   He enjoyed metal detecting and collecting coins and antique bottles.  He also enjoyed fishing and held the 1969 State Record for the largest bass caught in Iowa.

     He is survived by his daughter, Gayle Long of Keokuk, one brother, Mitchell Dale Long of Wayland, MO and several nieces and nephews.

     Besides his wife he was also preceded in death by two sons, Randall Long and Rick Long, one daughter, Debbie Sue Long, and two brothers, Merrill Dewey Long and Ronald Long.

     A Gathering of Remembrance will be held for Richard and his wife Judith from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends at that time.

     Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
