Mary Alice “Holly” Vorhies, 90, of Keokuk, IA died Friday February 23, 2024 in Cedar Rapids, IA. 

A lifelong resident of Keokuk, she was the wife of William Vorhies. He preceded her in death in 2020.

Born May 8, 1933 in Keokuk, she was the daughter of James A. and Katherine (Blom) Hollingsworth. She was married Oct 20, 1956 in Keokuk.

Holly is survived by son, Douglas (Jane) Vorhies of Oxford MS, son, James Vorhies of San Diego, CA, and daughter, Katherine Vorhies of Marion, IA.

Holly graduated in 1951 from Keokuk High School and attended the University of Iowa where she studied nursing before becoming a homemaker. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and loved singing in the choir. She was a member of Mother’s Study Club, PTA, the Keokuk Country Club and Keokuk Yacht Club. Holly loved to play tennis and golf, and spend time boating on the Mississippi.

Burial will be held at a future date at the National Cemetery in Keokuk. Memorials may be directed to the Keokuk-Hamilton Dam Museum or the Keokuk Humane Society.
