Marilyn Dinkel Fry, 88, of Montrose, IA died Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at her home. 
She was born July 20, 1935 in Rochester, NY, daughter of Howard Wilhelm and Margaret Veronica Callinan Dinkel.  She was a college graduate of Trinity College in Washington D.C. obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.
Marilyn was united in married to William Earl Fry in Rochester, NY in February of 1968.   He preceded her in death in January of 1990.  
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Awalt Mogenhan (Wes) of Montrose, IA and one son, Roger Awalt of Davenport, IA.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jackie Mogenhan Borget (Matthew) of Highland, UT, Ian Mogenhan (Leighann) of Lexington, KY, Patrick Mogenhan (Stephanie) of Pekin, IN, Mary Beth Mogenhan Nelson (Justin) of Eagle Mountain, UT, Rebecca Foss of Kissimmee, FL, Matthew Awalt of Roanoke, VA, Darien Sagan of Roanoke, VA and Caleb Awalt of Atlanta, GA, as well as 16 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.   
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Howard (Gene) Dinkel and a son Eric Awalt. 
Marilyn was employed as an office worker at Strassenburg pharmaceutical firm.
She was an avid reader with mysteries being her favorite.  She also was a member of a bowling league and enjoyed playing cards.  While in Virginia she volunteered at the Roanoke Transportation Museum and worked in the gift shop.  Marilyn also volunteered at the pet shelter, the Bernard Healthcare Center and the county office in Franklin county Virginia. She was a faithful in journaling and was a dedicated letter writer throughout her life. Marilyn moved to Montrose to be closer to her family two years ago. 
Marilyn attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose, IA which was the highlight of her week. 
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose, IA with Father Gary Beckman officiating.  Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial may be made to Lee County Hospice.
