Karen Kay Cochenour Busby, 71, of Luray, MO, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at her home.
She was born on December 3, 1950, in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Wayne Franklin and Reba Eileene Stott Cochenour. She graduated from Clark County R-1 High School with the Class of 1968.
On June 30, 1990, Karen was united in marriage to Ronnie Busby. She has always been so proud of her wedding where she and Ronnie exchanged their vows on horseback in Clark County, MO. She and Ronnie weren’t just husband and wife, but truly best friends. Ronnie survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Linda Kay Scovern (Tim), two sons, Clint Wayne Boatman (Angie) and Jason Ira Boatman (Tina Robertson), seven grandchildren, Asia, Seth, Lexy, Koby, Chaz, Takoda, and Kyndon. She is also survived by her step-children, Niki Wardlow (Jake) and Dawn Wood (Gorden), six step-grandchildren, Shannon Hoenig, Cheyann, Samantha and Sidney Wood, Blaine Wardlow and Madison Wardlow, several great grandchildren, two brothers, Bobbie Cochenour and Jerry Cochenour (Brenda) all of Arbela, MO, three sisters, Mary Crader of Topeka, KS, Shirley Lay of Lake Havasu City, AZ and Glenda Marley (Gary Whitaker) of Revere, MO, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Dorthy June Cochenour, Rosa Lee James and Julie Ann Watts, brother-in-law, Dean Crader, father-in-law, Buzz (George) Busby, mother-in-law, Juanita Busby, one grandchild, Gorden Wood, Jr., two nieces, Tereasa Crader and Carmen Cochenour, and four nephews, Larry Stark, Kevin Stark, Travis Stark and Ricky Anderson.
Karen had been employed at Motorola in Quincy, Swift & Company and Sheller Globe in Keokuk. She retired after thirty-three and a half years at Sheller Globe. Following her retirement, she worked for McAfee and Hayes Auction Service and Ayerco Convenience Store in Kahoka.
She was a member of the Long Riders Club, the Quilt Club and the VFW Social. She was also a Union member of Local #444 and served on the Safety Committee and Swat Team at work.
Karen enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning the bounty of her garden. She loved horses and rode them most of her life. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
A gathering of remembrance will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Arbela. The procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home in Kahoka at 10:15 a.m.. Following the graveside service everyone is invited for food and fellowship with the family at the CARE building in Kahoka.
