Vigen Memorial Home obituary - Imogene L. Brookhart, 90, Keokuk

Imogene L. (Graf) Brookhart, 90, of Keokuk, IA, passed away Saturday December 17th at Accura Healthcare East in Newton, IA.

     She was born on November 12, 1932, in Keokuk, the daughter of Charles O. Graf and Nellie E. (Kruger) Graf. She was raised in Alexandria, MO and graduated from Kahoka High School in May 1951.

     On August 28, 1953, she was united in marriage to W. Ralph Brookhart. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2002.

     Imogene & Ralph farmed on the family farm in Kahoka, MO until 1960 when they moved to Keokuk. She was a homemaker, raising three boys until the early ‘70’s when she became the cook for Keokuk Manor. In August of 1973 she went to work at the Lee County Home until her retirement. After retirement, she became a hospice volunteer. After Ralph passed, she enjoyed taking Bus trips with a Ladies Group to areas in the Midwest.

     Imogene & Ralph were founding members of the Bel Air Baptist Church. She was active in the church and was very proud of its growth.

     Imogene enjoyed playing cards & games with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and having family over for the holidays. She especially enjoyed playing BINGO with the grandkids and the great grandkids where she would hand out prizes for all the winners.   

     She is survived by her three children Ronald Brookhart (Debbie) of Newton, IA, Kevin Brookhart (Wanda) of Montreal, MO, and Craig Brookhart (Linda) of Newton, IA,  her grand-children, Ashley Downs (Scott), David Brookhart, Lacy Hall (Malcolm), Tammy Vahle, Alisyn Pinkerton (TJ), and Logan Brookhart her great-grandchildren Morgan Downs, Blake Downs, Madison Gruber, Mackenzie Gruber, Mia Gruber, Timmy Vahle (Rona), Tommy Vahle, Tyler Vahle, Shawn Vahle (Paige), Shane Vahle (Cass), Paxton Pinkerton, Phynlee Pinkerton, Phoenix Pinkerton, and Pyper Pinkerton and her great-great grandchildren Elijah Vahle and Wyatt Vahle.  

     She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles L. Graf, half-brother Leroy Graf, half-sisters Madaline Wright and Lucritia Dunkerson and grandchildren, LeaAnn Brookhart and Jody Thompson.   

    Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 27, at the Bel Air Baptist Church in Keokuk.

     Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday, from 10 am – 12 noon, with the family meeting with friends at that time.

     Memorials may be made to the Bel Air Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
