Charles Harlan Ryland, 84 of Tipton, IA died Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Tipton.

He was born December 5, 1938 in Clarksville, MO the son of William Pershing and Edna Olive Zumwalt Ryland.  Charles was united in marriage to Joan Ryland.  She preceded him in death on August 7, 2018.

Charles was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country for twenty-five years, until his retirement.

Following his military service, Charles had been employed by the St. Cloud Police department for nineteen years.

Charles was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

He was an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed wildlife, especially hunting deer, turkeys, ducks, and geese and also enjoyed fishing.  Charles was a talented woodworker and woodcarver and painted pictures of wildlife.

He is survived by one brother, Billy Joe Ryland of Keokuk, five sisters, Rebecca Borgen of S.D., Sally Ann Ryland of CA, Sharon Page of MO, Janice Ryland of TN and Berneta Wood of Ft. Madison, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Charles was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Ryland and three sisters, Alta Olmstead, Cathleen Johnson and Ruby Ruggles.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dan Davis officiating.  Burial with military rites will be held in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 noon-1 p.m., Monday with family meeting with friends at that time.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion.
