DALLAS CITY - The Fort Madison Lady Hounds got a three-set win over West Hancock Monday night in three sets – Idk how vb is scored – is this redundant???.
West Hancock took the first set 25-16, but Fort Madison rallied to take the second set 25-14 and the third set in a route 25-8.
Mara Smith reached the 1,000 assist plateau as part of her 25 on the night.
Head Coach Kelly Knustrom said it took a bit getting going but the Lady Hounds found a groove after the first set.
"Started out a little slow again, but once we got rolling and found momentum, we were pretty much firing on all cylinders," she said.
Jayce Fullenkamp led Fort Madison with nine kills.
"She has been committed to working on her mental game and I was very proud of how she responded after her first rotation tonight," Knustrom said.
Sydney McEntee and Dayonna Davis both added seven kills.
Knustrom said the Hounds got a boost in the rotation from Molly Schulte.
"Molly stepped in as middle tonight when the team needed her and played fantastic volleyball. She continues to be someone we can rely on in multiple positions to make us better."
Olivia Buckner had a perfect serving night going 9 of 9. Dayonna led with three aces. Mackenzie Huebner also served 100% from the line and added two aces. She also had 10 digs.
Kylie Lumino served 15 of 15 with an ace and added 14 digs. Reilynn Turnbull also played a huge role off the bench, stepping into multiple roles when needed.
"She has such a great attitude and wants nothing more than for her team to succeed, but the big story of the night is Mara Smith surpassed 1000 career assists."
The Hounds play their first match Tuesday night at the remodeled HoundDome on senior night.
