WASHINGTON – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds have had a revolving door of top runners this year, but Tuesday’s run at Washington featured some of the normal top dogs.
The Fort Madison girls took another top spot in the eight-team Washington Invitational claiming five of the top 15 places with junior Avery Rump leading the way with a fourth-place finish. Rump is closing in on the 20-minute mark after starting the year with some illness issues. Fort Madison had 46 team points, one point ahead of Marion with 47. Washington was third with 55 and Keokuk was 4th with 123 points.
Rump’s 20:23.23 was 38 seconds off the pace of Addison Dabroski of Marion and 19 seconds behind Washington’s Iris Dahl (2nd).  Freshman Jordyn Marshall and sophomore Ellie Hellman followed in 7th and 8th place with just a second apart at 20:55.05 and 20:56.19. Addison Rump 21:09.47 and McKayla Schinstock 21:17.77 were the other two scoring runners for the Lady Hounds tandem running at 13th and 14th place.
Ellie Huebner at 24:49.62 (40th) was the other Lady Hound competing Tuesday.
Jacob Shottenkirk appears to have shaken off some cramping to take 5th place overall and lead Fort Madison’s boys to a second-place finish with 49 points behind Washington’s title run on their home course at the Washington Country Club.
Shottenkirk has been up and down this year dealing with side cramping, but Tuesday’s 17:24 was one of his best times of the year. Riley Tripp has been one of the more consistent runners on the season and was nine seconds behind Shottenkirk in 6th place at 17:35.11.
The other three scoring runners for Fort Madison were Mason McLey at 17:59.65 (10th) and Peyton Lambert 18:10.14 (11th). Calvin Johnson got into the top five for the Hounds again with a 18:33.91 (17th overall).
Other Bloodhounds running for the boys were sophomore Hunter Wiegand who had a top 20 finish at 18:48.70 (19th), freshman Jacob Walker, who had a nice run finishing 22nd at 19:05.17, Noah Schinstock 19:53.42 (37th), and Jake Haessig 23:08.77 (66th).
Keokuk finished 8th with 254 points.
