FORT MADISON - The Relay For Life of North Lee County will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Fort Madison High School track beginning at 5 p.m.
For more than 25 years, the Relay For Life of North Lee County has brought together community members, cancer survivors, Relay teams, and corporate sponsors to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  This group of dedicated supporters has raised over $1,500,000 for cancer research and programs to benefit cancer patients.
This year’s event will take us “Back to the ‘80’s” with the goal of raising $80,000 for the American Cancer Society.  Everyone is welcome to join the fun at the track and partake in the evening’s events.  Dan-the-Man will once again provide the music and entertainment, while Relay Teams host activities and fundraisers at their team sites.
The event will kick off with a free-will donation dinner of walking tacos, cupcakes, cookies, and drinks donated by the Izaak Walton League in Fort Madison, the cupcakes by Kelly’s Cakes, and cookies by Kim’s Confections. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The Recognition Ceremony will take place at 7 p.m., during which our cancer survivors, teams, and corporate sponsors will be recognized.  The Luminaria Ceremony will start at 8 p.m. where the track will be lit with Luminaria bags purchased in memory or honor of a loved one.  Luminaria bags will be available for purchase until 7 p.m. the night of the event.
The closing ceremony will take place at 9 p.m.
Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center is once again the presenting sponsor of this event with continued support by many local businesses.  A list of corporate sponsors can be found on the Relay For Life of North Lee County Facebook page.
“It is an honor to be part of this fundraising event.  We invite everyone to join us at the track to enjoy dinner, walk a few laps, support our teams, and applaud our cancer survivors.  The word cancer continues to instill fear in the lives of so many. Our goal is to make that word, like the ‘80’s, a thing of the past,” commented Angie Budnik, Committee member.
There is still time to put together a team, RSVP as a cancer survivor for the event by contacting Missy at 319-376-4768, or purchase a luminaria in memory or honor of a loved by visiting the Relay For Life of North Lee County Facebook page.
