James Edward Niggemeyer, 83, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Silver Maple in Carthage, Illinois.
 
Born on January 26, 1939, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Henry and Elsie (Krumpleman) Niggemeyer. On June 8, 1963, he married Mary Jane Watznauer at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa.
 
He is survived by his wife; three children: Brenda Kay (Dan) Wilkens, Tena Lea Niggemeyer, Bruce Alan (Deanne) Niggemeyer; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren and sister: Barbara (Fred) Otte.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister; four brothers; two step brothers and one step sister.
 
Jim was a United States Air Force veteran. He retired from Amax. Jim enjoyed camping, riding his bike around Fort Madison and drinking coffee with his friends.
 
His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa, with Father John Stack as celebrant.
 
Burial will be held at a later date.
 
A memorial has been established in his memory.
