Donald James Bush, 82, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 11:26 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at his home.
Born on October 30, 1940, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Eldred and Bertha (Moffitt) Bush. On February 6, 1965, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, he married Sonja Jolley.
He is survived by his wife Sonja; daughter: Mitzi (Greg) Walker; son: Jamie Bush; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and sister: Elaine Foehring of Fort Madison. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son John; two sisters: Dorothy Millmeyer and Mary Lou Freesmeier.
Donnie was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Alleman Council Knights of Columbus #1853. He graduated from Nauvoo High School and the Naval Electronics School. He was a United States Navy veteran. He retired from J.I. Case and was a life long farmer. He enjoyed farming, working in the yard, hunting, fishing and supervising.
His body has been entrusted to the Schmitz-Banks and Beals Funeral Home for cremation.
Friends may call after 12:00 noon, Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo, with family meeting with friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant.
Burial will be held at a later date in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Nauvoo.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project or Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
