King-Lynk Funeral Home obituary - Lavern F. Schubert, 89, Burlington

Lavern “Bernie” F. Schubert, 89, of Burlington, IA, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 9:50 AM at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.  He was born on July 15, 1933 in Henry, IL to Clement and Marie Balensiefen Schubert.  On July 19, 1958, he married Joan A. Spoor in Ft. Madison, IA.  Bernie was a locomotive engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad and later BNSF.  He was of the Catholic faith and member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elk’s Lodge in Fort Madison and the Moose Club in Burlington.  Bernie loved to laugh at a good joke.  He loved his family and enjoyed golf, bowling, dancing, riding motorcycles, traveling, and wintering in Florida.

     Survivors include his wife, Joan Schubert of Burlington, IA; one son, Steve (Jana) Schubert of Littleton, CO; two daughters, Teresa (Steven) Gerard of New Sharon, IA and Kathy Ilmberger of Burlington, IA; 9-grandchildren; several great grandchildren and one sister, Norma McCollough of Peoria, IL.    He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Don and a sister, Mary Ann Rankin. 

     Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Fort Madison.  There will be no formal services at this time.  Burial will be held at a later date in Claypoole Cemetery in rural Wever, IA.  A memorial has been established in Bernie’s name and may be sent to: Joan Schubert, 3301 Sterling Drive, Burlington, IA 52601.  Online condolences to the Schubert family may be left at the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory website:  www.kinglynk.com
