James “Joey” Bishop, 80, of Keokuk, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at 8:05 AM at the Ivy Nursing Home in Davenport.
He was born on July 12, 1942 in Quincy, IL to Glen and Mildred Jacoby Bishop.  On March 3, 1963 he married Mary Jairl in Keokuk.  James worked a full career at Armour Dial and retired in 2003.  He was a member of the Keokuk Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk where he volunteered countless hours.  He was a devoted St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed NASCAR especially Mark Martin and the Earnhardts.  He volunteered taking people to the store and doctor’s appointments and drove the courtesy cart at the hospital.  He met many people and never met a stranger.  He also volunteered for the Habitat House.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bishop of Keokuk, two daughters, Marietta Palmer of Keokuk and Patty (Brian) Steffensmeier of West Point; one son, David Bishop of Keokuk; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a sister Gloria Brewster of Carthage, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Charles “Dick” Dickman; a brother-in-law, LaVerne Brewster and one granddaughter.
Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  The family will hold a visitation on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 4-6 PM at the Keokuk Evangelical Free Church at 2315 South 7thStreet in Keokuk.  A memorial service will begin at 6 PM following the visitation at the church with Pastor Jeff Higbie officiating.
