Dale G. Holterhaus, 86, of Cedar Rapids, IA and formerly of Ft. Madison passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 6:45 PM at the Hiawatha Care Center.

   He was born on June 28, 1936 in Ft. Madison to George and Viola Mathiasmeier Holterhaus.  On November 30, 1957 he married Carol Doering in Ft. Madison.  Dale worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for four years, then Chevron for twenty five years and lastly Mervyn’s Department Store in Lakeland, FL.  Dale was a member of St. Judes Church in Cedar Rapids and was a former member of Sacred Heart and Ss. Mary’s Church in Ft. Madison. He enjoyed golfing and traveling.  Dale and Carol spent the first thirty two years of marriage in Ft. Madison and spent thirty two years of marriage in Lakeland, FL.

   Survivors include his wife, Carol Holterhaus of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Julie (Dale) Jones of Morrison, IL and Jean Dirks of Ankeny; three sons, Brian (Sandy) Holterhaus of Cedar Rapids, Greg Holterhaus of Robins, IA and Brad (Dyan) Holterhaus of Adel, IA; nine grandchildren, Leslie (Brian Ross) Bendlage, Lindsey (Andy) Schutte, Joanne (John) Van Etten, Jessica (Sawyer) Woolf, Mitch (Taylor) Fondell, Jason Dirks, Daniel Holterhaus, Tara Holterhaus and Taylor (Logan) Wagner; five great grandchildren, Claire and Jack Van Etten and Olivia, Micah and Madeline Wagner and one sister, Sheryl (John) Wilken of Naples, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roger and a great grandson, Lucas.

   The Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 11 AM at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church.  The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church.  Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
