Gary D. Edens, 82, of Ft. Madison passed away at 6:10 AM on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at The Kensington.
He was born on May 25, 1941 in Delmar, IA to John and Ada Sommers Edens. On November 18, 1967 he married Mary Elizabeth Christian in Janesville, IL. Gary was a Customer Engineer for IBM and serviced several companies. He also was an instructor for IBM and taught in different parts of the United States. Gary served in the US Army from 1963-1965 during the Vietnam Era. He was also a member of First Baptist Church and served as an AWANA leader at Harmony Bible Church for many years. Gary loved being on the river and was an avid water skier. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle, going on walks and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Edens of Ft. Madison; two sons, Scott Edens of Lamoni, IA and Mike (Leslie) Edens of West Point; one daughter, Laura Edens of Chillicothe, MO; two grandchildren, Isaac and Riley Edens of West Point and one brother, Dale Edens of Tipton, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Sydney Edens.
The funeral service for Gary will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
