Eileen Louise Sloat, 92, of Donnellson, IA, passed away at 3:58 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, IA. She was born on November 6, 1931, in New York, NY, to William F. & Jean Stepanski Kopp. She married Jerry Allen Sloat on February 9, 1952, in Davenport, IA. She attended Marycrest College and was a librarian at Richardson Elementary School in Fort Madison, IA, for more than 20 years. She enjoyed camping, canoeing, traveling, watching birds at feeders, playing games & cards with family & friends. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She loved art in all forms, ranging from appreciation of the masters to local arts and crafts and student projects, learning new techniques and teaching them to others. She loved book art, especially children’s. She liked entertaining kids at the library with her collection of Peanuts Characters and Garfield, especially Snoopy and Woodstock. She introduced children to the world of art and books. She enjoyed fossils, rock, artifact and mushroom hunting, history & archeology. She loved when family & visitors would drop in at the farm to visit, and always made sure everyone was fed. She welcomed new family members and family friends with grace, acceptance and open arms.  She survived raising 5 children, but never stopped worrying about them.

Eileen is survived by: her husband: Jerry Sloat of Donnellson, IA; 3-daughters: Susy (Ron) Southwick of North Liberty, IA, Siiri Sloat of Burlington, IA, & Nyssa (Jerry) Kelly of Byron, NY; 2-sons: Eric (Sharon) Sloat of Carthage, IL, & Darien (Roberta) Sloat of Iowa City, IA; 8-grandchildren: Samantha (Ivan) Cuellar, Madeline (Brendan) Thomas, Darien Maxwell Sloat (Celine) Robins, Claudia Sloat (Ryan) Walker, Maggie Magellan (Jordan Young) Southwick, Nicholas Kelly, John Briggs, Jr. & Sherry McKinley; 7-great grandchildren: Minerva Thomas, Eric Cuellar, Chancellor Briggs, Bethany Briggs, Cooper Briggs, Delaney Rigney & Bradey McKinley; 2-sisters: Valerie (Richard) Verbeke of Fort Myers, FL, & Janet (Steve) Michels of Altoona, IA.  She was preceded in death by: her parents & 1-brother: William Francis Kopp, Jr. 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for P.A.W. Animal Shelter of Fort Madison.
