Henry “Hank” Earl Varner, 79, of Keokuk, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Keokuk.  Hank was born in Keokuk, Iowa on March 1, 1943, to Alfred C. and Anna (Haage) Varner.  He graduated from Keokuk High School in 1961 and went on to become a machinist at Hubingers on May 7, 1962, retiring in 1996.  On September 23, 1972, he was united in marriage to Janice “Jan” Scates at the First Baptist Church in Arnold, Missouri, and were married almost 50 years.  This union was blessed with two sons, Earl and Brent.  Hank was also a faithful member of Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk.

Hank is survived by his wife, Jan Varner, of Keokuk; sons:  Earl Varner of Keokuk and Brent (Rita) Varner and grandchildren, McKenzie Hunter, Lilyann, Landen and Louis Henry Varner all of Troy, Missouri.  Also surviving, his mother-in-law, Ronelva Scates, his sister-in-law, Cynthia (Terry) Livell all of Arnold, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hank is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Alfred Lee Varner, his sister, Joyce (George) Kinman, his father-in-law, Clifford E. Scates, and one grandchild, Charlie Varner.

Visitation was Tuesday, August 16. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 17 at Evangelical Free Church, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Keokuk.
