Lillian Dorothy Lung, 98, of Colusa, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023 at 6:44 PM at the Birkwood Village of Fort Madison, Iowa, with her family by her side.

She was born August 18, 1925 in Adrian, Illinois, daughter of Clarence and Essie (Beckett) Vass.

She graduated from Carthage High School and worked at Schaeffer Pen in Fort Madison, Iowa, where she met Robert Elery Lung of Colusa, Illinois. They courted for two years and were married on September 15, 1949.

Lillian later worked for the Nauvoo-Colusa School District as a Cook for 31 years. She also had a part-time cleaning business, helped Robert on the family farm, delivered papers for the Burlington Hawkeye on the weekends, and raised their 4 children.

Lil’s favorite pastime was her garden, flowers, and yard. Her yard was her sanctuary which she treasured and spent most of her time in. She made many memories teaching her daughter and grandchildren how to bake, cook, can and sew. She belonged to the Burnside Christian Church, where she was involved with many luncheons, dinners and ladies aid.

Lil was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lung, two brothers, Clarence Jr and Dick Vass and two sisters, Virginia Meinhardt and June Hageman.

Lil is survived by her three sons, Gary and Debbie Lung of Saint Charles, Missouri, Rick and Linda Lung of Quincy, Illinois, Steve Lung and Krissie Campbell of Blandinsville, Illinois, and one daughter, Dixie and Torrey Roe of Fort Madison Iowa, 13 grandchildren. Heidi and Martin Menke, Bettendorf, Iowa, Nikki and Will Ripley of Bettendorf, Iowa, Natalie Bundee of Davenport, Iowa, Sean and Christie Lung of Eldridge, Iowa, Dylan Lung of Indianapolis, Indiana Dalton Lung of Saint Charles, Missouri and Devon Lung of Saint Charles, Missouri, Katie and Kyle Ludwig of Liberty, Illinois, Erin and Mike Baker of Quincy, Illinois, Colleen and Aerik Steward of Quincy, Illinois, Melea Lung of Keokuk, Iowa, Jacob and Halie Todd of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Jessica and Josh Damon of Fort Madison, Iowa and Casey and Danielle Elliott of Blandinsville, Illinois; 19 great-grandchildren: Miles, Nolan, Madalyn, Alexandra, Olive, Ruby, Johanna, Will, Charlotte, Ethan, Evan, Piper, Charley, Mylee, Brylee, Camden, Harper, Braxton and Hadlie and one brother: Robert Vass of Adrian, Illinois. 

Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. The funeral service for Mrs. Lung will follow at noon with Pastor Charlie Ferguson and Pastor Mark Nichols officiating. Burial will be held at Byler Cemetery, rural Dallas City. A luncheon will be at the Burnside Christian Church after the committal service.
