James Franklin May, Jr., 75, of Niota, Illinois, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa. 
 
Jim was born August 12, 1947 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of James F. and Frances (Hardest) May Sr. He married Diana Lyn Nixon. They later divorced. On March 21, 1992 he married Vicki Tanner in Pontoosuc, Illinois. 
 
Jim was raised and educated in the Washburn, Illinois area. He later moved to Niota. He was employed for 30 years at JI Case in Burlington. Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting in archery competitions. He owned and operated a small archery ship in Niota for many years. He also worked as a horse trainer all of his life. He loved including his family in his hunting, fishing and horseman passions. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a fan of Chris Ledoux music.
 
Survivors include his wife: Vicki; one son: Mike (Tammi) May of Dallas City; four step-children: Johnna Bradford, Tracey Bryant, John (Amy) Tanner all of Dallas City, and Travis (Sara) Fortune of Fort Madison, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and one step-daughter: Nikki Vaughan.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. 
 
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m.until time of services at the funeral home.
