Vigen Memorial Home obituary – Gary L. Rockenbach, 84, Keokuk

Gary L. Rockenbach, 84, of Keokuk passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

He was born November 25, 1939 the son of Melvin and Doris Swan Rockenbach.  Gary graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1958.  After high school he attended Keokuk Community College for a year. 

He was inducted into the United States Army on December 18, 1962.  He graduated on June 7, 1963 with a certificate from US Army Southeastern Signal School for the Lineman’s Course.

Gary was employed at Sheller Globe for forty-three before his retirement.  

On December 17, 1961, Gary was united in marriage to Linda Thoeny in Keokuk. They recently celebrated sixty-two years of marriage together.   She survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Holly Roth (Jay) of Keokuk, IA, one son, Craig Rockenbach of Keokuk, IA, five grandchildren, Sean Burke, Connor Roth, Spencer Roth, Owen Rockenbach and Isis Claiborne.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in infancy, Kimberly Rockenbach.

Gary enjoyed watching FOX News and playing the stock market.  He also enjoyed selling on E-Bay where he was a top seller.  He collected robots, tin toys and several other items.  He loved watching “Lost in Space”, “The X-Files”, old movies and science fiction shows.  He also enjoyed tending to his flower gardens and going on vacation with his children.

Per Gary’s request, military rites will be held at a later date.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk is assisting the family with arrangements.
