Mary Kay Elliott, 68, of Burlington, died at 11:30 AM Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born June 4, 1954, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Laurence L. and Phyllis Catherine McIntire McQuay. On May 14, 1977, she married Russell William "Rusty" Elliott II in Oak Street Baptist Church, Burlington, Iowa. He later died on February 13, 2022.

Mary Kay was a Burlington High School graduate.  

She worked at HyVee in the bakery as a cake decorator before she was married, then became a homemaker.

Mary Kay was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing the organ and decorating cakes. Mary loved animals and had a soft spot for cats.

Survivors include her mother, Phyllis McQuay of Burlington; son, Russell "Bill" William (Jessica) Elliott, III of Burlington; grandson, Alex Elliott; granddaughter, Morrigan Elliott and sister, Debra (Dan) Schwenker of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Monday, July 25, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Elliott will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 25, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Brooke Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for The Views and the Des Moines County Humane Society.
