Pen City Current obituary - Kathleen K. Pierrot, 77, Indiana

Posted

Kathleen Kay “Kate” Pierrot, 77, of Newburgh, Indiana, formerly of Augusta, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Kathy was born on March 6, 1947, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Wilbur and Marcelyn (Sandburg) Lingenfelter. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Bill, her daughter Michelle Pierrot and grandson Kyle Hitchcox of Newburgh, and son and daughter-in-law Kris and Jodi Pierrot of Indianapolis; and two sisters, Carolyn Reem and Cindy Textor, and two brothers, Kim and Paul Lingenfelter, all of southeast Iowa; and numerous nephews and nieces. Kathy and Bill moved to Evansville 50 plus years ago. She was not happy with the move, wanting to stay near her family in Iowa. Bill told her two things, first, let's give it a year and if it doesn't work out we can move back to Iowa (it obviously worked out), and second, they could drive to Iowa for visits whenever she wanted (she continued making that 7-hour drive on a regular basis all these years, initially with the whole family and later often by herself). She loved her family. She also enjoyed traveling with Bill. She especially liked the beautiful National Parks in Utah and Colorado. And she developed a strong interest in the history of American Presidents. She would proudly tell about visiting sites -- birthplaces, homes, museums, tombs, -- for every President. Her favorite was Lincoln, she and Bill visited a dozen significant sites associated with Abe. Her biggest concern about traveling was making sure her kitties were cared for, but Michelle and Kyle handled that nicely. Kathy loved people -- her family and Bill's family of course, but also her exercise group, her bowling teammates, various people she had met over the years (including grade school classmates) and various Newburgh friends and neighbors.
A Celebration of Kate’s Life will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Denmark Fire & Rescue in Denmark, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PAW Animal Shelter of Fort Madison or Des Moines County Humane Society.
