Maria Cruz Hernandez, 88, of Ft. Madison passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 4:20 AM at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Ft. Madison surrounded by her children.
Maria was born on May 3, 1936 in Linares, Neuvo Leon Mexico to Epifanio and Maria Elena Perales Cardenas. She married Ramiro Hernandez on December 31, 1953 in Linares, Neuvo Leon, Mexico and he passed away on September 14, 2014. Maria worked at Sheaffer Pen Company and retired after several years of service. Following retirement she worked at Denny’s Greenhouse. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Maria enjoyed embroidering, crocheting and making center pieces. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and cooking meals for them.
Survivors include two daughters, Maria Elena (Eliseo) Plata of Donna, TX and Anna (Richard) Wallingford of Revere, MO; two sons, Armando (Sherri) Hernandez and Pep (Lori) Hernandez both of Ft. Madison; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Jose Cardenas of Parlier, CA and Jesus Cardenas of Donna, TX; one sister, Maria Mendez of Parlier, CA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Emma Leal and a brother, Gilberto Cardenas.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11 AM at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverend Gary Beckman officiating. Friends may call after 2 PM on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory where the family will receive friends from 4-6 PM. A rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM prior to the visitation.
