Bloodhounds 3rd at Prairie Invitational

Lady Hounds 6th, while Central Lee runs 9th and 10th

CEDAR RAPIDS – Fort Madison got a good look from sophomore Ellie Hellman at this weekend’s cross country invitational at Cedar Rapids Prairie.
Hellman, from Holy Trinity Catholic is a Lady Hound this year in the shared program and finished eighth overall on the 5K course to lead Fort Madison. Hellman was 3:20 off the pace set by Pella’s Marissa Ferebee. Pella, one of the top teams in the state, took all five of the top five spots to win the event.
Junior Addison Rump took 14th overall and was second for the Bloodhounds with a time of 21:25.30. Fort Madison’s top runner, junior Avery Rump, suffered with some heat issues and didn’t finish the race.
The scoring runners for the Lady Hounds include Jordyn Marshal 22:38.5 (26th), McKayla Schinstock 22:50.4 (29th), and Ellie Huebner 25:29.4 (50th). Fort Madison finished 6th in the 9-team Orange division with 127 points. Pella had 15.
Central Lee came in ninth in the Orange division with 247 points. The top finisher for the Lady Hawks was freshman Evelyn Adkins who clocked a 23:36.8 (37th overall). The other scoring runners for Central Lee were freshman Macy Anderson 24:04.8 (42nd), freshman Afton Maynes, 26:37.0 (54th), junior Gabby Maynes 27:31.8 (56th), and junior Saphire Cummings 28:54.8 (58th).
The boys fared three spots better taking 3rd in the Orange division with powerhouses Pella and Clear Creek-Amana in the mix. The Dutch took the title with just 27 points. CC-A in second with 81. The Bloodhounds were nippers at the Clippers with 85.
Senior Jacob Shottenkirk picked up where he left off after his top 40 finish at the state meet last year taking 12th place Saturday with a 17:51.0.
Junior Mason McCley got into the top 15 with a 17:56.4 (15th). Other scoring runners from the Hounds were junior Nolan Guzman at 18:10.2 (17th), senior Payton Lambert 18:16.1 (19th), and junior Riley Tripp 18:27.9 (22nd), freshman Jacob Walker 19:10.5 (31st), and junior Jake Haessig 23:52.9 (74th)
Senior Calvin Johnson was right behind at 18:33.2 (23rd) and Hunter Wiegand 18:47.3 (27th).
Central Lee senior Leo Thomas led the Hawks with a 20:04.8 (47th), followed by sophomore Austin Fogarty who had a 20:51.0 mark for 55th place. Other scoring runners were sophomore Caden Crozier with a 21:17.8 (56th), freshman Caedon Newton with a 21:17.8 (56th), and Kaidin Humes 22:07.7 (60th).
The Hawks finished 10th with 276 points. Other runners for the Hawks included senior Ayden Kent (61st), freshman Keagan Westfall, and junior Beau Boyd (79th).
All four squads, along with Holy Trinity's boys' team, participate in the Keokuk Invitational Thursday at 4:30 p.m .at the Elks Country Club Golf Course.
