KEOKUK – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds and Hounds cross country teams dominated the Keokuk Cross Country Meet Thursday evening.
Fort Madison took eight of the ten top five spots – Idk how this is scored, assuming 5 is the best/highest they can score??? in the girls' and boys' events, with the Lady Hounds taking all five spots enroute to two first-place finishes at the Keokuk Elks Country Club.
Junior Avery Rump just missed breaking the 20-minute mark with a 20:10 to lead Fort Madison. The time marks a nice rebound from last week’s run where Rump suffered with the high temperatures.
Ellie Hellman was second at 20:45 followed by Addison Rump at 21:10 and junior Mara Smith in her first varsity run taking 4th at 21:24. Jordyn Marshall was 21:34.09 good enough for 5th place and the sweep of the top five.
Taking the top five makes a perfect 15 point score for the Lady Hounds. Other runners for the ladies include McKayla Schinstock who finished in the top 10 with a 22:26 (10th) and Ellie Huebner with a 24:36 (18th).
Central Lee’s girls took second place overall in the girls' run with 97 points. Evelyn Adkins led the way with a 23:07 (12th). The other scoring runners included Macy Anderson at 25:16 (22nd), Aubree Bunnell 25:53 (24th), Afton Maynes 27:07 (31st), and Charlee Clay 27:23 (33rd).

In the boys' run, Fort Madison was led by 2023 state qualifier Jacob Shottenkirk who clocked at 17:33 to edge WACO’s Jude Dykstra by three seconds. The Hounds’ Mason McLey was third under 18 minutes at 17:57 (3rd), and Nolan Guzman took 5th at 18:10.
Peyton Lambert and Hunter Weigand raced to the line for 6th and 7th with 18:17.48 and 18:17.95, followed by Calvin Johnson just two seconds behind in 8th with an 18:20. Riley Tripp slipped into the top 10 with an 18:49 to round out the Hounds' runners.
Central Lee took 3rd getting a tiebreaker win at the 6th runner spot with 114 points edging Clark County.
