Lowell Richard “L.R.” Melton, of Duncanville, Texas passed away July 18, 2022 at age of 82. Lowell was born in Milltown, Indiana on February 8th, 1940 to the late James Paul and Viola Melton. Mr. Melton owned and operated Melton’s Automotive in Dallas City Illinois until 1980 when he relocated to Duncanville, Texas where he lived until his death. After he settled in Texas he enjoyed a 30 year career in the Automotive Aftermarket Industry as a successful District Sales Manager,

After graduation from Dallas City Community High School in 1958, Lowell served his country as a Reservist in the Armed Forces from 1957-1964, In September 1958 he married the love of his life Dorla Churchill. Mr. Melton graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville, Tennessee in 1960. Lowell was a 32 degree member of the Masonic Temple – Valley of Quincy for 55 years. And a member of the Dallas City Lions Club.

He will be reunited with his wife of 52 years Dorla Melton and his son Douglas Melton who passed in May of 2021, his parents as well as his brother James Melton, in our heavenly afterlife. He is survived by his siblings JD Melton and wife Marilyn of Dallas City, Illinois, Georgia Lauer of Burlington, Iowa, and Pam Orth of Dallas City, Illinois and Shirley Melton, widow of James Melton of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by his children, Teri Nelson of Cedar Hill, Texas, Lori Melton-Dahl of Dallas, Texas, Richard Darin “Bo” Melton and his wife Rachael of Concan, Texas and Doug’s widow Beth Melton of Midlothian, Texas, grandchildren Josh Melton and wife Kimberly, Beau Melton, Alex LaFleur and husband Jonathan, April Melton and husband Matt Schimek , Charles Melton and wife Emily, Karissa Melton and husband Chris, Ashley, Fawn and Cody Brown, Abbey Cain and Declan Cain, Hannah Kannady and husband Trevor, Nigel Nelson, Trevor Nelson and Jace Melton.

“Pop or Papa” Melton also enjoyed the company of his 16 great grandchildren.

Masonic Rites will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City followed by visitation with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Melton will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Banks & Beals in Dallas City. Burial, with Military Rites, will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
