Irene Elaine Petty, 77, of Dallas City, Illinois, passed away at 10:46 a.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Irene was born December 14, 1944 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Alton and Helen (Freeland) Scott. On December 22, 1963 she married Garry K. Petty in Lomax, Illinois. He preceded her in death November 20, 1996.

Irene was a 1963 graduate of Dallas City High School. She attended the former Hair Academy in Burlington, Iowa, following high school. She worked several jobs throughout her life including at the Britton House of Beauty in Dallas City, Winegard Company and Conifer Corp both in Burlington and at the Kensington in Fort Madison. She also helped her husband, Garry, on the farm. 

She was a member of Merry Mender's Club in Dallas City and was an avid collector of all things Barbie. She loved to sew, play cards and especially loved time spent with friends and family. She taught ceramic classes for many years at her home. Irene loved the TV series Heartland as the grandkids referred to as Grandma is watching her horsey show. Irene loved to travel to Oklahoma to visit family. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone. Irene enjoyed country music, especially Brooks and Dunn. She also enjoyed listening to her husband, Garry, and son, Rusty, sing Karaoke.  

Survivors include one daughter: Jamie (Matt Wilhelm) Williams of Dallas City; two sisters: Jean Ann (Gary) Thomes of Dallas City and Shirley Vice of Mount Ayr, Iowa; one granddaughter Rachel Wesely and bonus grandchildren: Jennifer and Josh Skinner, Mackenzie, Madison and Brayden Shaw, Phillip Butler, and  Hayden Korch, as well as many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew: Michael Thomes. 

Besides her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by one son: Russell K. “Rusty” Petty; one son-in-law: Buck Williams; brothers-in-law: George Vice and Jamie Petty and a sister-in-law: Roxanna Petty. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. July 23, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. 

The family will receive friends from noon until time of services on July 23rd.
