Alliant helps Illinois restore power

Workers from north Lee County help in tornado ravaged Chicago suburbs

Posted

CEDAR RAPIDS - Alliant Energy had dozens of workers return home safe this weekend after helping one of our peer utilities recover from last week’s major storms in Illinois.
ComEd, an energy company serving northern Illinois, recently requested additional resources to help restore power after at least 24 confirmed tornadoes hit Chicago and surrounding areas last week. At one point, ComEd had approximately 430,000 customers without power.

We had 71 Alliant Energy employees from across Iowa and Wisconsin that answered the call for mutual assistance and went to help – including employees from Anamosa, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, DeWitt, Dubuque, Elkader, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Lisbon, Manchester, and Washington.
Mutual assistance refers to the voluntary partnerships we have with other energy providers in the region. During major restoration events, these partnerships enable energy companies to increase the size of their workforce by bringing in additional workers and equipment.
