Stan Lee Stambach, 69, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born on March 19, 1954, in Avon, Illinois, the son of Donald F. “Spud” and Rosalie (Foster) Stambach. On December 20, 1988, he married Susan Nixon in Keokuk, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife: Susan; daughter: Shannon (Scott) Smith; granddaughter: Joelle and sister: Sue Ann (Donald) Promisson of Bushnell, Illinois. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Stan was a graduate Bushnell - Prairie City High School and Northeast Missouri State University. He taught Science and Physics at Nauvoo - Colusa High School for over thirty years. He  also coached baseball and basketball at Nauvoo - Colusa, leading several teams to state. Stan was in the Who’s Who of Teachers and was named Coach of the Year for Northern Illinois. He was an avid Illini, Celtics and Bears fan. He enjoyed coaching, watching sports, traveling out west and spending time with his family.

His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz - Banks and Beals Funeral Home for cremation.

A visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Schmitz - Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Schmitz - Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
