Rump sets Denny White relay marks

FORT MADISON – With the Drake Relays less than two weeks away, Fort Madison’s boys' track team has positioned themselves well in a couple events.

The 4x100 team of Adam Sobczak, Dayton Lamar, Tate Settles, and Julian Dear ran a personal best 44.27 at Bracewell Stadium on a wet Saturday. Bloodhounds Head Coach Mike Schneider said that was a good run with a decent shot at qualifying for the April 29^th Drake Relays.

“I don’t want to jynx anything, but that’s a good run and we stand a pretty good shot at Drake,” he said.

The last qualifier for the Drake will be next week.

The Hounds' 110-meter Shuttle Hurdle Relay team didn’t run on Saturday due to wet conditions, but that team of Henry Wiseman, Kiawante Smith, Sobczak, and Hayden Segoviano ran a 1:04.05 at the Maple Leaf Relays on Thursday, good enough for 2^nd place.

Schneider said that grouping also has a decent shot at Drake.

Cory Arnett won the discus at Burlington on Saturday with a spin of 126-0, his best effort ever. Mason McLey ran a 2:11 in the open 800 which was a personal best for him.

Fort Madison’s Avery Rump set two meet records, taking first place in the girls' 1500 and 3000 meter runs.

Rump, a freshman, is making a name for herself across the state as one of the elite distance runners.

Rump ran a 5:17.70 in the 1500, besting Mt. Pleasant’s Cristine Carthey’s 2021 mark of 5:35.53. In the 3000, Rump clicked off an impressive 11:06.64 surpassing Carthey’s 2021 mark of 12:01.44.

The boys' Cade Packard remains at the top of the pack in each 400 meter. On Thursday he raced to a 53.06 to take second in Mt. Pleasant. Central Lee’s Grant Myhre was third in Class B with a 53.70.

The Hounds' Dayton Lamar took 2^nd at the Denny White Relays in Mt. Pleasant clearing 6-0.

The Lady Hounds' Aija Jenkins, who qualified for state last year in the high jump, finished 3^rd with a leap of 4-10.

Central Lee’s Karlie Pohren was third in the 200-meters with a 29.04. The Hawks’ Grant Myhre, who’s steadily moving up the board in middle sprints, ran a 24.07 for 4^th place.

Central’s Tommy Eschman was third in the long-jump with a 20-6 leap.

Fort Madison freshman Nolan Guzman was third in the 800 with a 2:10.87.
