Rump rounding into form with win at MP

Sophomore wins second straight x-country invite

MT. PLEASANT – The Fort Madison Lady Bloodhounds capture the championship at the Mt. Pleasant Invitational Cross-Country meet Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Avery Rump continues to dial in after illness slowed her start to the season. Rump took first place with a 19:41, a full :28 ahead of Washington’s Iris Dahl in second. Senior Paetyn Wiegand came in fifth at 21:13.52 and sophomore Addison Rump took 7th place at 21:41.15.
The other scoring runners for Fort Madison included McKayla Schinstock at 22:46.43 and Allison Lamb was 20th overall and fifth for the Bloodhounds at 23:43.14.
Other runners included Hadley Wolfe at 24:33 (27th), Ellie Huebner 24:49 (30th), Charlie Huebner 26:28 (42nd), Alexa Walz 27:04 (46th), Jordyn Burch 27:24 (48th), and Emma Kern 28:40 (57th).
Central Lee was paced by Gabby Maynes 28:05 (46th) in the small school competition. Sapphire Cummings ran a 37:12.
The Lady Hounds finished with 44 points to lead all teams. Washington was second with 49 points and Oskaloosa with 79.
Micah Rees again led the boys' run for Washington, who finished in first with the top two runners.
Fort Madison’s Mason McLey, Riley Tripp, and Jacob Shottenkirk finished 10th-12th with McLey leading the way at 18:27.52. Tripp was right behind at 18:33.15 and Shottenkirk finished at 18:35.40 in 12th.
Hunter Wiegand scored with a 15th-place finish at 18:55.18 and Castille Johnstun finished 24th with a 20:25.21.
The boys took 4th place with 72 points. Washington won with 30 points. Mt. Pleasant was runner-up at 57 points and Oskaloosa was third at 63.
Calvin Johnson was the other Bloodhound runner and finished 26th at 20:37.40.
In the small school 5K, Central Lee was led by Leo Thomas at 19:59.46 and Ayden Kent with a 21:03.52 (35th). Kaidin Humes finished at 22:00.40 (46th) followed by Austin Fogarty on his heels at 22:00.84.
Caden Crozier wrapped up the Central Lee team scoring finishing 51st at 22:35.72. Central Lee finished 7th with 176 total points. Mid-Prairie won the division with 50 points.
Holy Trinity Catholic was 8th overall with 198 points.
Maddox Rung was the top racer for the the Crusaders, finishing at 20:28.38.  Sheldon Kruse finished 38th at 21:16.62 and Tanner Williams was 42nd at 21:40.62. Lung Rayne raced to a 22:45.93 (53rd) and Caleb Rea finished 65th at 24:13.62 to wrap up the HTC team scoring runners.
Fort Madison’s Peyton Lambert finished second overall in the junior varsity boys' run with a 19:15.15.
