TRI-STATE RODEO

Rodeo week just one month away

New volunteer sign-up link at rodeo website

FORT MADISON – With Tri-State Rodeo action just one month away, the organization is making one last push to sign up volunteers.
According to Scott Meller, this year’s Rodeo Security Chairman, the rodeo is still looking for people to help as security ushers and ticket takers. This is the first year the Rodeo Operating Committee has set up a volunteer registration page on the Tri-State Rodeo webpage at the following link: https://www.tristaterodeo.org/volunteer.
“We’re still putting out the call for help this year. We can’t have too many people helping with ushering, ticket taking, and stuff like that,” Meller said.
“We don’t ask you to do it all night and you get to take in the rodeo. It’s kind of like a free trip inside for your help. We’re not super worried about it. We always have people coming up during and after rodeo asking how they can volunteer.”
The rodeo also makes donations to the Denmark Ball Association, P.A.W. Animal Shelter, and Special Olympics based on volunteer designations and hours worked. Volunteers who register through the site can select the charitable organization they would like their hours to be counted toward.
“We record all those hours each night and keep that tabulated,” Meller said.
He said there is a list of regular volunteers that rodeo staff will call on for help, but he said the new registration link is a way to attract other people. Volunteers can also offer to help with the Special Kids Rodeo.
Lisa Wood remains the chairwoman of that event and Meller said they can always use extra help, as well.
“They try to put a volunteer with each participant in that event, so Lisa can always use more help to pull that special event off,” Meller said.
Grand Parade Chairman David Fedler said registrations for the parade are on par with previous years, but most people don’t register until two to three weeks from the event.
The grand marshals for this year’s parade are Fort Madison residents Dave and Debbie Clark.
This year’s theme is “Rodeo Fever” Fedler said rodeo chairman Bobby Holtkamp said a 70s disco theme would be fun, so floats and decorations are encouraged to feature that theme. A registration form is at the top of the article.
